SAND
TRAP™
Installation Instructions
| IMPORTANT
The top of the Sand
Trap™ must be at least 2 to 2-1/2" below the top of the curb.
The Sand Trap™ should always be filled and covered
with sand for adequate support. At no time should the Sand
Trap™ be exposed. We recommend that you have a working brisket
board and a properly adjusted neck rail. These are key elements
in maximizing the life of the Sand Trap™, positioning the cow,
and keeping the stall clean. |
-
Remove
existing sand bedding from stalls - dig down approximately 6" below
top of curb
-
Slope
underlying stall base 2 to 2-1 /2" upward from curb toward brisket
board... for good drainage.
-
Lay Sand
Trap™ on solid, stall base. Butt rear of Sand Trap™ up against inside
curb wall. Note: Use one Sand Trap™ per stall - center between stall
dividers.
-
Fill
stall with washed, screened sand (free of clay).
Note: Poly strips should lay flat on stall base. If needed, stand
on top of Sand Trap™ poly strips while filling, to prevent sand
from getting under poly strips.
-
Add more
sand during next few days, as sand settles in-between strips. Sand
bedding should be at or near top of curb, without spilling over
curb. Sand should slope 2 to 2-1/2" upward toward front of stall
(without completely burying brisket board).
-
Adjust
neck rail as required, to keep stall clean.
Refill
When...
a) Sand
bedding levels fall 1" below curb, or
b) Bottom of brisket board begins to show, or
c) Front of stall bed is lower than rear, or
d) Cow is laying diagonally in stall, or
e) Poly strips are visible
